Eve
Eve typifies the church — brought forth from Christ through His death, to fulfill God’s eternal purpose.
Type of Eve
In Ephesians 5, it is explicitly stated that Eve typifies the church. Just as Eve comes entirely from Adam (not from outside), everything that the church is comes from Christ. This shows that God’s eternal Plan is fulfilled partly through Christ and partly through the church.
The Deep Sleep — Type of the Cross
God opened Adam’s side and took a rib from him and made it into a woman. In like manner, all that the church is came out of Christ. Everything which is in the church has its source in Christ; none of it is from man. (Nee-Lee, The Glorious Church, Ch.2)
Adam’s deep sleep (Genesis 2:21) typifies the death of Christ. From the opened side of Christ came blood and water:
- Blood — for redemption
- Water — for life
Believers must be both redeemed AND living. Both come forth from Christ’s cross.
Bridal Presentation
As God brought Eve to Adam (Genesis 2:22), so on the Lord’s Day God will bring the church to Christ as a glorious bride — without spot or wrinkle (Ephesians 5:27).
Progressive Revelation
Eve is the first woman in God’s progressive unfolding:
- Eve (Genesis 2) — original purpose
- Bride in Ephesians 5 — present reality
- Woman in Revelation 12 — end times
- Bride in Revelation 21-22 — eternity
