in Christ
Definition
“In Christ” (Greek: en Christo) is the positional reality of the believer according to Romans 8:1 and Colossians 3:3. The life that wins is not in the believer himself, but in Christ who dwells in him. This is the core of union with Christ.
Usage per author
Watchman Nee / Witness Lee
In The Life That Wins (b8), Nee teaches that the life that wins is entirely “in Christ” — not in human effort.
“The life that wins is not in the believer himself, but in Christ.” (The Life That Wins, Translator’s Preface)
“The life which God has ordained for Christians is a life that is hid with Christ in God. Nothing can touch, affect or shake this life.” (The Life That Wins, p. 8, Col. 3:3)
“Christ is our life, as declared in Colossians 3:4. He transcends all; He cannot be touched by anything.” (The Life That Wins, p. 8)
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.” (Rom. 8:1, The Life That Wins, p. 28)
Interpretation: The believer is “in Christ” (positional truth, Rom. 6, 8, Gal. 2:20) and Christ is “in the believer” (experiential work through the Spirit). Both truths form the basis for the exchanged life.
