Flesh-Spirit Paradox
Fundamental pneumatological principle that the way to divine fullness proceeds through humiliation, and that spiritual victory is achieved not through human effort but through death and resurrection.
Definition
The way UP is DOWN. The way to VICTORY is through DEFEAT. The way to LIFE is through DEATH.
This paradox—the upward call requiring downward humility—is the structural key to spiritual formation.
Theological Foundation
The Church is called to manifest the complete fullness of Christ—“filled with all the FULNESS OF GOD” (Ephesians 3:19). This fullness is pneumatic (Spirit-given), not organizational.
Believers must be transformed into Christ’s character, not merely conformed to Christian behavioral patterns. This requires the dying of self-will and human capacity.
Implication
What appears as loss (going down, humiliation, dying to personal ambitions) is truly the way to real power. God’s Kingdom operates according to opposite logic from the fleshly world.
